Street Lights Go Out

If you google "street lights go out" you'll see that there are many many people who think that street lights go out when they walk under them. I've noticed it too.

Stopped Escalator vs. Stairs

Is it more laborious to climb a stopped escalator than the equivalent flight of stairs? It sure seems so.

D&D Superhighway System

Back when I played D&D, I always marveled at three spells. Perpetual Light, Rock to Mud, and Mud to Rock. It seemed to me that retired Magic Users would go into civil engineering and create highways with overhead lighting using these three spells. But I never saw it. Ever.

Double Strollers

The other day I was sitting in Starbucks across from the Vancouver Library (as featured in Battlestar Galactica on "Cylon Occupied Caprica"), when I saw a woman pushing a stroller with 2 kids. It wasn't one of those wide strollers, but rather there was a front and a back. So it made me wonder if the front seat or the back seat is the preferred seat? Do they fight about who gets to sit in which seat? Just thinking about that made me happy I don't have kids.

V-Ger

I was thinking about the first Star Trek movie today In the movie, we had already launched a Voyager, and it somehow became super smart--smart enough to be godlike--smart enough to read--but not so smart that it could wipe away the dust and read its name properly. But it got me thinking that it really wouldn't have gotten too far from the solar system and with the technology of space travel developed by Earth, people would have gone out to the early space probes and set up little hotels and museums by them as they hurtle through space. And tourists would come and stay at these hotels which would have windows looking out at the space probe.
